I just got a C1 and I am anxious to try it out, but I have a question, on the shock mount, the part that on the shock mount that connects to the mic stand (the part you screw onto the mic stand) is a lot smaller than the actually part of the mic stand onto which I would screw the shock mount. I am sure I am missing something really simple, but could someone please enlighten me?
Thanks for your help.
-Mike

Check to see if the shockmount has a thread reducer/adaptor screwed in, there would be a visible slot to put a coin or large screwdriver in, if so, unscrew that and you should find it will then fit your mic stand.

Yeah it should be the adaptor for European mic stands. In fact, I bought two mic clips the other week from Maplin and they came without the inserts so if you'd like to post them to me ... ;)

And after you remove the metal adaptor with a dime... be careful not to strip the cheap plastic threading on the holder.

Thank you for that lovely attempt at yet another of the millions of cheep shots taken at us, but sadly your wrong. The C and B Series shockmount threads are metal not plastic, and before you go nit-picking, no this does not included the C4 mounts which we are looking into changing currently.
Oh and just so I can start a shit storm of my own, I would still love to know what your reason is for all the PMI hate, you've never given one.

Justin jumped in and saved me the trouble. I can't say with absolute certainty about the C1 shock, but my C-3 shock, which I believe is identical, is most definitely steel throughout, and is similar to shock mounts sold by Rode. The Rodes are either plastic with a brass thread insert or steel throughout. Here's a request for both of the above:
DJL- please email Justin directly and take your best shot at resolving your issues, or at least tell Justin to bugger off somewhere other than this thread.
Justin- let me know when the C-4 shockmounts are upgraded because I have some of the originals that have always sucked, and continue to suck, in spite of the fact that the mics are just fine. I'd be happy to buy a pair.-Richie

DJL did actually, under duress, tell us the reason he has for his dislike of PMI. Here it is, reproduced in full noisevision technimonocolour:

"Alan sent me a very unprofessional and rude PM telling me that he would NEVER help me and etc, etc. So after having problems with some of my 797A/SP mics and knowing that PMI would never help me... I sold the mics. Those of you who have been here long enough to know how Alan can go-off might be able to guess how unprofessional and rude the PM was that he sent me. Anyway, there now you know."

I should stress that he gives more detail to this in the very long skeelsd/B1/egg beater thread, and that I'm not putting it here to criticise him or anyone else. Nor should you line this up and pick it apart because he didn't give it to us to be shredded. I'm only quoting it so you know his reasons ... whether on earth you understand them or not.:)

Believe me, there was more than enough provocation to cause Alan Hyatt's reaction...............of course this comment will probably get a response from DJ, but that is to be expected.

I've seen Alan's sent PM's and I don't recall ever seeing one to DJL, I'm not saying there never was a PM just saying I haven't seen one. Also his PM records don't go that far back only to last June and there isn't anything from or to in DJL in that time period. But I also wouldn't doubt that if there ever was any PM DJL would have it saved in a special folder on his HD.

I posted about a week ago how the C4 mounts(originals) sucked and didn't hold the mics worth a $h!%...I was told to email Studio Projects...

I emailed them.....and the next morning when I checked my emails...I had a reply from Justin....basicly saying gimme your shipping address....I'll send you the "new version" etc...

I haven't got them yet but....you can't beat how they're supporting their products!!!...

Why does every SP thread have to degenerate into some pissing match that involves DJL?

C'mon folks... use Ignore or whatever it takes to let this go, please. I don't give one rat's ass about some guys private feud with SP. And I'm sure getting tired of reading all the bandwidth wasted on this tripe.

Because DJL interjects himself into every SP thread and starts the pissing match by taking cheap shots at their products.

I own and use a lot of "middle of the road" mics. At 4033, NTK, Groove Tube mb-1, senn 441 and 421, re 20, baby bottle, etc. A friend let me use his SP 1 for a weekend and I ran it against all of 'em. What a great mic, Very nice on everything I used it on. I don't think it would be my first choice on everything....but none are. I have that nitch filled by the other mics, but if I were buying my first now, it would definitely be that mic. Pound for pound, an excellent value

From the "not quite in line with the tread, but certainly in line with a post in the thread" category...

I bought the Oktava shock mounts for my 012's. They had the aforementioned inserts, but the pisser is that with the inserts OUT, the mounts are WAY too big to screw onto my standard American-thread stand. I have to wrap Teflon tape around the threads on the stand just to get the threads on the shock mount to bite into the threads on the stand.

Anyone else run into this problem?

PS to Noisedude-I have several sets of the inserts from various shock mounts...PM me your address, and I'll gladly sent you a set.

i haven't had any problems with my oktava mic clips or with the shockmount on my c1 before i sold it.

Which 1? the C1? or the B1? The thread started with a reference to a C1, but I wasn't sure which one you were referring to.

Whichever it was, for a man of few words that was a warm reference from BK.

I just thought on this occasion I should stick up for DJL because in fairness he reluctantly told us the deal with him and Alan. He gave the impression in the thread that this all happened a long time ago. I'm sure you could argue that anything Alan may have said would have had fair enough provocation, but DJL will argue otherwise.

Phil - I'll be in touch!

c1. i would have stopped there but my message was too short

Ok I stand corrected about the mic holder... but as for the PM and not giving you a reason... I hate fucking liars... so now I'm even more pissed off than ever before... and now I will not be keeping my opinion (about your cheap products) limited to only this bbs.

And while we are on the subject of your dad... does Alan really have any Gold and or Platinum records to his engineering credits... and if so, which ones? Did Alan really tour with both Yes and J. Geils for a year as the opening act... and if so what was the name of his band? Does Alan really have three albums out under three different bands, and if so... what bands? What instrument does Alan play?
