Curious where you all got your various computer desks and shelves and what not.

What I'm looking to house is my 24x8 console, then a pull-out shelf for my keyboard, and a shelf that sits above the back for my PC monitor and my near fields. I'll house my rack gear elsewhere so I'm hoping this will be a fairly simple thing to find.

The online places (Musiciansfriend, etc) don't seem to carry quite what I'm looking for. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hey Blue Bear,
I'd found the omnirax folks but not the argosy. Seems like some good stuff. I've also stumbled upon Raxxess stuff, which seems a little closer to my budget.
Thanks
N

i like the omnirax...couldnt find the price on the coda.

I like the new Raxxess modular system. It isn't quite as nice as the custom designed argosy stuff, but you will not have to change your furniture later on if you switch boards, etc.

I think I'm about to get a setup from Raxxess for my Soundcraft Ghost.

I use an Ikea Jerker Desk:

$129.

You can add additional shelves to it and configure it in a way that suits your needs. Its a pretty popular desk for home studios and actually has its own underground following:

That "Jerker Fan Club" site is hillarious. I live not more than 15 minutes from an Ikea so I may check it out after work today.

I've also toyed around with the idea of trying to make my own...

I made my desk and its the best thing ever. I made it perfectly sized to my room, and i can add shelves cut holes do whatever. just go to home depo and go to town

Thats the uglyest thing I've ever seen. To each his own though. Although, you could hang your clothes on it to. Yea, thats it. Spacesaveing bedroom console. Doubles as a closet(use the clothes as a deadend absorber :D )and a console....wait a minute. Hell, why not make it a bed too! :p

Me too. Best thing I ever did for my studio. I modify all the time. Of course, mine took 3 months to build. Nothing worth doing right is done overnight. I've used it over 9 years now.

I second the Jerker desk and will get some pics up of my very modest setup soon.

For a 24x8 desk the Jerker will be too small, I'd recommend with DAW and small controllers and computer junk.

PS- the Jerker is not as ugly as it looks, honestly...

Brzilian,

Is that actually your setup? That's kind of what I'm looking for.

The extra shelves and stuff, computer monitor, mouse, and monitors, do those shelves come with it, or as an add-on you can buy at Ikea? Or what?

Thanks! They just put up an Ikea here a few months back and I have never had a reason to go. Now I do.

Nope, sorry. The image is from the website I linked to. That is acutally an older version of the Jerker. The original had those pull out shelves in the front - the new ones don't. I do have pics of my setup. I'll try uploading them when I'm home.

Ikea still sells the the pivoting shelves for the sides as well as an additional shelf for the top.

Overall, its an awesome desk. You can set the desktop up at any height (with 1" increments) for sitting or standing.

Ikea also sells a Jerker "tower" that happens to be just wide enough for 19" rackmount equipment. For some reason, its not listed on the website.

HAHA, glad you picked up on that one. :D
The desk is not that great to look at...but I spend more time working on its surface than I do wondering how it matches my decor.

It may be ugly, but its cheap and has all sorts of add on shelves/drawers that you can customize it to your needs.

PS- the Jerker is pronounced 'Yerker'...in case you want to ask for by name at Ikea (and also so you don't make the same mistake I happened to make)

that's is exactly what Im using for my studio. I bought the jerker computer desk with two pivoting shelf (for the monitors). I will build a rack-mount box to put on top of the desk. :)

I also used an Ikea Jerker desk, but I did some modifing. I first drill holes on the legs to install casters. Secondly I built a box to sit on top of the desk that would hold my rack gear.
