I recently bought a 24 channel Soundtracs Solo mixer. I was just curious if anyone had any background info about the company. I understand they are no longer with us. I was just curious what years they produced stuff and what price range they fell into.

you should have a manufacturing date on it.
its been awhile since i had my hands on one.
made in the 80's if i remember. lots of big round knobs ?
if i remember the mic pre's were quite respectable.
get a tech to look at it. get a schematic if you can. if it uses socketed op amps you might be able to try an upgrade.

Manning- thanks for the info. It hasn't arrived yet so I can't check out the manufacturing date. The pres and Eq are supposed to be pretty nice. I don't think I'll be doing any modifications at this point but I guess it is a possibillity.

Careful with upgrading opamps, especially if you have an older board (which a Soundtracs Solo is). It can add a lot of extra strain to your Power Supply which can lead to huge problems. Just because an opamp is socketed with 12 pins doesn't mean that any old 12 pin socketed op amp can replace it. They all have different values and can affect both power supplies and other opamps and caps in the circuit path.

xstatic is correct. if it uses op amps ...look at the op amp and it will have a marking as to manufacturer. then what you want is to contact people like analog devices, Texas instruments, linear technology, and maxim and others
(search google for op amp manufacturers) and find out what they would recommend as a better drop in replacement but with no change to the
circuit characteristics. the key words are DROP IN REPLACEMENT with better noise spec. then try just one channel and hear if there is sonic improvement.
sometimes there might be an improvement - other times not.
you might also try newsgroups like in google rec.audio.pro and see if you can find people who have successfully upgraded the soundtracs , and what they did technically and the cost involved.
peace.

thanks for the info guys. I will keep that in mind for future reference. I have no intentions of modding the board at this point.

Ausrock-thanks for the website. Thats the type of stuff I was looking for. My initial google searches didn't turn up anything. Thanks again....
