Sounds out of tune...

It sounds to me like you were 'pulling' the strings out of tune without realizing it. I've seen it many times.
And you might do it in one setting but not another, as in when you go home.
Also, it's not impossible that when you started trying different amps to see what the problem was, you quit pulling the strings because you weren't playing the same as if you were just playing a song. Your attention and efforts were focused differently than they were when you were just playing.

I can't really think of anything that would make one amp sound out of tune for one particular player but not another one.

What kinda guitar do you have? I've had a couple of guitars with really weak necks of connections. One was one of the clear body Ampegs, one was one of the old fiberglass Airlines and the other was a Washburn 335 clone.

If you have access to a good digital tuner, try folliowing:

1. Tune 6 open strings
2. Then check tune at various frets and strings up to 12th fret

Is all in tune?

PRS guitars rarely have tune problems unless something else is going on.

OK, so let me test my understanding...

Anybody, playing any guitar, sounds this way through your amp, right? Have you tried your amp through another cabinet? That probably is not it, but you need to eliminate that variable.

Assuming it definitely is the amp, and it's not the cab, then it sounds to me like you have some sort of resonance in the amplifier circuit that is beating against the notes you are playing. If it is a tube amp, then what I would suspect is a microphonic tube. If it is a solid state amp, then I dunno, a problem with the feedback circuit...??? I don't know much about SS amps.

I have the solution, you need to give me your PRS so I can verify it.

If its just all guitars sound out of tune through your amp then pretty sure its your amp. Don't know it can do it but you know how sometimes you have a toy or something that makes a sound, then the battery starts running out and the sound plays out of tune; maybe its like that just with a big problem with the power supply of your amp.
