soundcraft e8 or m-audio octane

I need 8 more pres. Which do you think will provide better preamps. I wont even be using the eq or routing options on the E8, but I heard they are some nice preamps. Id like to keep it around the $350. Any other suggestions?
 
If those were my only two choices, I'd go with the E8. The Octane (which I have) is a nice clean pre, but I'm willing to bet the ones in the E8 are better. And it'll be nice to have those eqs available even if you don't use them. You WILL need to use the inserts to send your signals somewhere.
 
you should even be able to find a soundcraft M8 for that price, on ebay,
who knows sounds that one better than the E8
 
do the m-series and e-series mixers have different preamps?
 
oh ya, the choices dont have to be limited to those two. Anything for around $350 will work. Those were just the two that seemd to be leading in my mind for some reason.
