I think it does, you just need one of these....

BEAuTIFUL!!! I DIDN'T REALIZE...

either you're a genius or I'm an idiot, probably somewhere in between but closer to the latter, so thanks for pointing that out and making my day.

that seems strange though, do you think the signals can stay seperate and maintain the same fidelity with the DB-25 to 1/4 adapter as with 8 direct outs?

Im not sure what your getting at, but I would say its a more solid connection than a 1/4" to 1/4".

really??? why would you say it's a more solid connection?

I'm not getting at anything in particular just asking questions from a position of ignorance.

I hAVE a DB50 connector for an external zip drive (I think), is db-25 digital???

also, the echo layla only has 6 ins, yet it has 8 outs???? goddamnit!

why do you need 8 outs if you're going into your computer?

I just need 8 ins, 2 stereo outs for speakers and headphone, out I...I'll be recording to the computer via mixer with analog eq then mixing/mastering with software and burning using the internal cd-rw why do I need 8 outs?

any recommendations for cards with 8 ins and just two stereo outs I don't want to pay for 8 outs I won't use.

The connecter isn't going to effect the sound quality and there isn't anything going on in that cable that isn't going on in any other audio snake.

High-end patchbays and other big ticket audio equipment used DB 25 connectors. Could you imagine having to pull all the connections out of a 96 channel board if they were all 1/4 or xlr? That would be such a huge mess.

thanks for the recommendation and I'll peep the link when i get a chance!

would you tell me what kind of recording software you use with that card?
For multitracking, Vegas 5. For other stuff, Sound Forge 6 and Acid Pro 4. I've also messed around with Reaper a bit.

I say its more solid because your not plugging in a 1/4" jack that can become loose at the contact points over time. You plug it in, tighten the screws down and your done. Dont have to think about that connection again. Its carrying the same signal over those wires as it would any other. Its like how a balanced TRS is the same signal as an XLR, just a different connector. And the D-sub out on that board is not digital. It will usually say on the connection point if its digital or analog.

point taken phaqu and farview, and thanks.

thanks mad audio, how do you like reaper?

I think I'm going with reaper myself, to the Reaper users what soundcards do you use?

does certain software not work as well with certain soundcards?

You need just as many outs as you can. Unless your mixing inside the box.

The Layla3g has 8 ins and 8 outs. Actually 16 ins and 16 outs when you, for example, add something like an Alesis AI3..which would then let you do 16 analog I/O from the Layla3g.

You can mistakenly think that the stock Layla3g only has 6 analog ins because you fail to count the 6 in on the back and the 2 additional inputs on the front. Additionally, those two front inputs can handle mic...or line....or instrument. And, the first two channels have available insert points on the back if you want them. And the box is superb with any signal. As is every Echo product ever made.

Why 8 outs? Flexibility. So that one can mix discrete outs to a console if one wants. Or one can route two of the outputs to monitors, and say, two outputs over to that hardware reverb so that it can be integrated into your in-the-box mix...and say, simultaneously send two of the Layla's outputs over to a headphone amp to Eric Clapton who's sitting on the bed overdubbing a real guitar part on your song. Or for simultaneously sending 6 stems out the Layla and over to a Protools HD system for dubbing of stems. Etc Etc.

i was going to do light eq and compression going in, b/c I like regular analog eq then I was going to do the rest of the mixing (minimal efx etc) inside the box, I don't need everything "dry" going in to the box like the "pros" like to do lol, I like to listen to my mix and adjust before recording, I would like to even add reverb outside the box but requires more outboard gear...but

at this point I think i'm going to commit cpu suicide, i'm not the type that can stay calm when things aren't going right (incompatibilities for instance) so I don't think computers are right for me...I don't like not understanding all this guarbage either

thanks, I am considering an echo card...

and yes i realize that the 8 outputs can be indispensable too many...but for the way I like to work all I need is to get into the box with some eq and compression from a mixer (on individual tracks not the whole mix) then do the rest of the mixing inside the box...so i was wondering if i could save money with a card that doesn't have the outputs but has 8 ins...anyway thanks for the input, I just have to make a choice and roll with it....but if i spend all my savings and It doesn't work out i going on killin spree (don't worry though only really rich bastards and cowardly prosecutors and cops)
