I went to guitar center and asked about what kind of soundcard I should get. I have an audigy sound blaster 2 and I need something better. The guy told me that I should just get an 8 Pre or a Firepod instead because it had an ADA converter in it and that should be all that I need. So my idea of what the firepod and the 8 pre will do is that they will make it record at a better resolution and enable me to record more than one channel at a time via firewire or USB? I still think that even if I get one of those, I'll still need a better soundcard but I really don't know.

that FP10(Firepod) looks fun.

you just plug your monitors/speakers into the outs on the Firepod. I don't think you need a soundcard anymore, as far as your Music recording requires.

the FP does look easy to hookup, the Firewire or USB.... wow! one cable, sweet.

If you have a firepod or 8pre you don't need another soundcard, they serve all the functions of a regular soundcard but with better features, like 8 channels and nicer preamps.

I have a firepod, I'm mixing on it as I type this.

Do you need that many pres? You could save money and get the FireBOX if you only need 2 pres. It has the same basic hardware setup, just fewer pres. Don't be pushed into something you don't need.

Ok cool. Yeah I gotta have all those channels for the drums. What is the difference between the two and what would the best one to go with?

I'd say, from what I've heard, that the firepod will be better. The preamps are very good for this price range. I would also suggest reading a lot about recording.
