Sound while overdubbing...?

For some reason I can't get any sound when I try to overdub?! I am using a Fostex VF-160, and I tried posting on the brand section but no one answered my question.

I record 50 seconds on track 1, then tried to record another track on 2 and 15 and neither will let me hear track one. Is there a button I'm not pushing? Is this super straightforward? This is literally the first time I've used it and the manual online is giving me naught.


Any help would be much appreciated!

Can you hear Track 1 without trying to record anything else?

Yeah, over and over and I've followed the steps and went back and re-followed everything. No avail. Ack.
