hi!

I use a t.bone 1000 mic (tube-mic near 500$)
and a Yamaha UW-500 box to connect to my PC

when I record 16/44 sounds the quality is ok but on my speakers or headphones are a lot of high frequencies.
an I cant combine my beat with the vocals well.
it sounds too dity... and distorted. not professional.

should I always use EQ for vocals? and can you give me some tricks on "EQing" ?

I don't recommend a ton of eq'ing on vocals. A little yes, but not a lot. What kind of Monitors are you listening through? Are you mixing through monitors? If not, then you should be.

if you have to use a lot of eq to get your vocals sounding good, move that mic, work on you mic technique, or... get a better mic. the best mics are those that need the least eq. i'm using a c3 on vocals, and i usually just cut the lowest frequencies to remove low rumble. i hardly ever need to add a highpass filter. but then it suits my voice. you should find the mic that best complements YOUR voice.

You need a preamp.

You must use a preamp to get that quality. Depending on your budget there are many options open to you including many that have spdif options such as the Joe Meek VCiQcs. What is critical is to get the strongest cleanest signal from your mic and a good preamp will do this and the difference is amazing. They go all over the board in quality and cost and many should be avoided but there are some moderately priced options.

Checkout www.mercenary.com for some cool stuff. For tube mics a lot of people swear by SS pres. I do not know if I wholly agree with this but there is some convincing arguments over it. Peter

I'm sure I will "upgrade" my monitors.. ;)

thank you for helping!
