sound cards/unusual application

Question Two:

I frequently record practice sessions into my home PC. I use an AKG C3000 mic connected via a phantom power circuit into an old Creative AWE32 card. It seems to work and sound fine for my purposes, but are there any problems inherent in this set-up?

Also, I would like to record my PC's midi output along with my playing as separate tracks. This has proven problematic, especially since the application generating the midi output uses the microphone (it responds to my playing in real-time), and is rather selfish about sharing it with the recording software. The inelegant solution I've come up with is to construct a second PC. For this I will need a multitrack recording card. Any suggestions as to which one to buy? Or how I can make this recording with only one PC?
