Sound Card

I recently purchased a P4 with a gig of ram dedicated to recording. Im trying to decide what sound card to put into the machine and I'm having a lot of trouble finding information. I'm looking to spend under $250 and hopefully not need to upgrade it too quickly.

PLEASE give me some advice on dirrerent cards and where to purchase. Is buying one used a bad idea?

soundcard recommendation

I would recommend the Midiman Audiophile 2496 if you're just starting out. It has a lot of features for the money ($159), and the drivers are rock solid. Stay away fron the Soundblaster stuff.
 
Also anything in the m-audio line would likely serve you well.
