Hello all, this is my first post so I will try not to sound to dumb with my first question cause there bound to get worse LOL...
right now I have a set up for a single musician. which is a small 12 channel Mackie mixer, which i run stero out to a soundblaster live card. which does a great job by the way. but If I need more than one musician at a time, what sound card do you suggest for up to 8 inputs at a time?
thanks
Terry
buy
a digidesign 002R it connects by firewire, gives you ProTools LE software, and 8 analog inputs. then you could by a strip of pre-amps that converts to ADAT lit-pipe (like
the Focusrite octopre) and make it as many as 16, the focusrite has 8 mic preamps w/ 48 volt phantom power, and the 002R has 4 mic pres with phantom. (and 4 line ins).
the 1010LT doesn't have any phantom power, so condenser mics cannot run off of it. also, all the other connectors are RCA's, and i believe only two of your outputs on your board are RCA, and those are tape outs (which can only be the general main mix). this measn you would have to buy 6 adapters from 1/4 inch to RCA. although it is called a 1010, it only has 8 inputs you can use, the others are SPIDF (uncommon, but possible to use, if you can find a converter) and MIDI I/O
The 002R has 4 mic (w/ phantom power), 4 line pres, 2 chs SPIDF, MIDI in/out/thru, RCA a couple times, i don't even remember all the inputs. plus, it is rackmounted with real, tangable controls for gain, and real buttons you can actually press (not in software) the 002R is 4-5 times the cost of the 1010, but i promise it will pay for itself the first time to do a real, lengthy CD
