Sound Board? anyone heard of it?

i work at lowes and we have this stuff called "soundboard" its like a big piece of fiberous board (half inchx4x8 ft.)
it looks like plywood but its more fiberous and soft.
its supposed to be made for putting on ur walls as treatment. but i have never really heard about this stuff until my buddy told me about.

if anyone knows wat type item i am talking about can u maybe give some suggestions or reviews on how well it works?

(they also have it at Home Depot.. i think they call it SoundChoice there. its the same thing pretty much)

Works? For what? Absorption or "soundproofing"?
For absorption, in reality, compared to the products such as Owens Corning 703...it sucks. :D

For soundproofing applications..compared to gypsum boad..well, it sucks.:D

Not only that, you can easily dent it, or put your fist through it.
However....its cheap. Unfortunately...cheap is never a measure of performance in studio construction.

It also sucks in regards to paint/primer absorption.

it wicks it right in, wasting paint.

Don't know where you heard that - because that is contrary to what the manufacturers say it is made for.

The fact is that it is made for installation behind drywall for the purpose of helping to create a better isolated wall (greater TL Values) - and it sucks for that purpose as well.

But it was never made for use as a room treatment - would work even worse for that than it does for isolation......

Whoever told you that doesn't know his arse from a hole in the ground.......

Ha thanks guys .. yea i was plannin on buldin a couple bass traps and wat not with the owens stuff... but my friend told me bout this stuff and said it wuld work but i was very sure if that was tru so i asked.. and u guys answered! ha thanks everyone.
