ok, so some time ago i experienced terrible static coming through my event tr-6 monitors, i'm beginning to rule out the idea that its the speakers themselves causing this static (is the wise to believe?) it happens from time to time where either a loud static burst goes through them or a tone (such as a sinewave) just kinda happen. In cubase after a glitch like this it told me "audio connection has been lost" so i'm thinking the problem is my sound card? i'm almost hoping it is becuase i'm using an echo mia midi soundcard, worth about $200 bucks i guess, but i got it really cheap for $50 from my cousin cuase he didn't need it (but told me he never expereience any problems when i told him my ordeal). and since the monitors are worth a lot more, i really hope its not them causing the problem.

i don't know if theres any more info you'd need to me to share. but i hope some of you experienced techy guys might have an idea or two...thanks a lot in advance for your responses!!!

Are you using the latest drivers???

I used to have problems with sine tones occasionally using some of the old drivers. If you do not have the latest ones, download them from Echo's website.

Great card tho...

unfortunately thats not it. if only life were that simple  definately the first thing i did when i got the card.

another problem i'm having is i can't even record audio on this card. i've tried everything i can possibley think of, and i can still not record an audio signal of any kind through this soundcard. would pluggin it in a different pci slot be a possible solution, or is that just wishful thinking?

i must say i find it interesting that you also had this sinetone problem. so for you it would just speratically go off at any time and disable sound?

anyone else at all to lend there input on this situation? i'd really appreciate the help. in the upcoming month i'm undertaking a project to write music for a documentary. so this is really a life or death problem for me right now as i can't compose with the peace of mind knowing i won't have sudden problems and my sound card kicking out on me.

The fqact that you were informed that the audio connection has been lost after this happens indicates that the problem is occurring in the driver. It may be a driver problem, or it may be the driver reporting that the sound card has a problem. Either way, it's not the monitors.

Check you error logs in XP for clues.

^ thanks for the advice. i think i might be getting a new soundcard becuase i'm starting to think this one is defective. any recommendations? i've been looking at the m-audio audiophile firewire.
