Howdy,

Im trying to record myself playing guitar and singing at the same time. Id like to have a separate track for each (ie one for vocals, the other for the guitar). Im DI'ing into a Behringer MX 602A for both vocals and guitar.

In Sonar ive setup two tracks with the following inputs:
Track 1 : In - Left M-Audio Delta Multichannel
Track 2 : In - Right M-Audio Delta Multichannel

After recording, if I playback a track solo it has both the guitar and the vocals recorded on it. I had assumed the the left input o my soundcard would correspond to the Channel 1 on my mixer where my mic is inputed. Accordingly, I had assumed Track 2 would record Channel 2 of my mixer where my Guitar is plugged in.

Anyone know what im doing wrong?

Here is my setup,
Guitar and mic directly inputed into a Behringer MX602 mixer which sends to a Delta Audiophile and then into Sonar.

Thanks,
Stickler

Make sure the mixer's channels into which you've got the mic and guitar connected are panned hard left and right respectively. Physically turn the pan pots all the way (opposite each other). Otherwise use channel inserts if the mixer will allow it.

I think Chuck hit it. If you're using the mains out from that mixer to the 1 and 2 inputs, you need to pan the channels at the mixer to separate them on their way to the recorder.

hey some people have already told you what to do, but I just wanted to break in and mention that you have the exact setup I just nabbed this weekend(except I got the Delta66). My biggest suggestion for this setup is to just mess around with everything, try turning knobs you might not have tried messing with! It took me a lot of trial and error to get where I wanted to be but I got it! I wasn't sure if I could get my mixer and the new card to split it up into two seperate tracks but I did and hopefully you have too. I am considering getting another mixer as well, as apposed to a midiman Audio Buddy that I hear I should get. Th AB is 80 bucks and the mixer was only $79, with more options? Anyway, I love my setup now, but I need better mics....and cables....and....and...*sigh*
