Nice clean site, but I find this common among startup studios- You don't really list a mic cabinet, except for AKG dynamics, and the only outboard pre I can find is a Presonus Blue tube. Unless your list is missing a bunch of stuff, you have way too much processing, and not enough signal. When I evaluate a startup studio, I couldn't care less about the software and assorted processors. All I really want to know is- What have you got for mics? and What have you got for pres?-Richie

Thanks for the response, Richard. As the thread subject says, "sorta newbie". I am running my mics through my Mackie 1202VLZ, which has very good preamps. My Blue Tube is used for mic vocals or mic'ing my acoustic guitar. My Alesis Microverb provides delays, gates, and reverbs for various things...and my Roland VS-880VX has over 99 different effects, including hall reverbs, compression, limiting, etc. What is not listed is a new RNC 1773 compressor. That being said...where am I so limited as a beginner?

What I'm saying is that your overall sound could be improved by a single preamp in the $1000-$2500 range, and about $4000 in mics, and if you have aspirations to make money doing this, plan your next upgrade to improve your signal. Neither the pres on the Mackie nor the Blue Tube can produce a signal for a critical track that is of commercial quality. The pres on the Mackie are good for a bunch of auxiliary channels for a drum kit, but I wouldn't run a vocal track through it if I had better options.
Don't misunderstand me. You've done a lot of hard work and spent some money already, you're not a newbie, and putting up a website sort of says "Open for Business", so if you have the urge, go for it when you're ready! To go from where you are to semipro level, I think you could benefit from higher end preamps and several thousand dollars worth of good mics, or at least 1 main vocal mic, such as Neumann U87. I know it takes time, 'cause for most of us working stiffs, money takes time. Keep up the good work.-Richie

Hey Richie...thanks for the clarification. The $$$ investment you are talking about are way outta my range right now...but for commercial work (read industry standard) I can see the point you are making. Within the great scheme of things, I still consider myself kinda new to this, but I appreciate your encouragement ;-). Semipro is a long way off right now, but the aspiration is there

As for the website, we were careful not to advertise services, as we are not there yet, the site is just establish a web presence. Thanks again for the encouragement. When I start hangin' out with Bob Clearmountain, I'll give u a buzz
