gimmi your mic!
hi guys & girls --
I was wondering: what's the best <$300 mic?
Just kidding.
If I read the numerous articles about high-end mics in recent issues of recording mags or in discussion on this board, people talk about the Telefunken, Neumann, Lawson, and other "stratospheric" mics all the time.
However, if I watch documentaries on tv music channels, I see the Sony C800 on the mic stand all the time. With a price tag of almost 6 grands, I am sure it is a hell of a mic.
So how come people rarely talk about this mic, even though it seems to be used very frequently? Are people ashamed of a "Sony" logo in their studios? Surely, Sony doesn't come with the myth of a Neumann or Telefunken. However, if people are willing to spend a few thousand dollars and use the C800 they must have a heck a lot to say about this mic. Or is it just a piece of gear & machinery for them.
Any thoughts? Does anyone of you own one by any chance?
