I found three blank Sony "CD-IT" High Bias 90 minute cassettes but noticed there are no indications other than the "High Bias" label as to the what type of tape they are.

I've looked here and elsewhere and can't seem to find any information. I'm assuming that "High Bias" in this case means CrO2 tape but would really like to know for sure.

Do any of you have any experience with this tape or know for certain that it's CrO2?

Chromium dioxide was a specific formulation and trade name of BASF and as such established the type II high bias eq setting that became a standard for tape deck manufacturers to set their machines up for. But even popular brands like Maxell used other terms like Epitaxial, which was their own trade name for their tapes which were designed to use the same bias and eq settings that BASF popularized.

So yes, CD IT tapes are type II, high bias, cr02 compatible.

Cheers! :)

If you look at the actual tapes, you'll discover what I'm talking about. Pay attention to what is said on each label.

Here's a BASF tape:

And here's a Maxell tape:

Notice that the Maxell tape only makes reference to it being a cr02 "position" tape, but not a specific cromium dioxide tape. Where the BASF tape needs not make any claim because they invented the position.

Cheers! :)

IIRC their is an extra gap in the top edge of the CR02 cassettes next to the place where you break off the record defeat tab.
Compare a std bias cassette to a cR02 cassette to see what i mean
Look iin the website...I never remember how to upload pictures
