I'm new to the game, but my end product sounds very "2-dimensional". I can't seem to make the recording more 3D. I'm panning and doing a little EQ, but just not satisfied. Any suggestions.

Here's a rough draft of something I've done.

Sounds pretty good to me (crappy computer speaker system so factor that in). The biggest thing I think is the lack of any sort of percussion. Are you planning to add drums to this? If you want to keep it a spare essentially acoustic song then I don't think you're far off.

Also sounds good on my PC speakers. I really like the vibe of the song. Maybe you're just used to listening to it? Every song can begin to wear on you after you've been working on it for a while... maybe put it away for a few days and come back to it. On first listen it sounds good to me. (PC speakers though, so I may be missing some things that others will hear on a better setup.) Maybe try posting it on the MP3 page and see what folks there have to say. Best of luck.

Ok. I was gonna say...not much "2D" about that acoustic version. With the electric version, I think I'd drop the gain on the vocals a bit - since the vocal track is centered (which it pretty much should be), having it so emphasized with volume can keep the listener in the middle , thus preserving a 2D feeling. Another thing, I think you could pan the guitars a little wider without degrading the song. Nice song, btw. ;)

Yup, nice song.

But you've got everything compressed to the point that there are no dynamics.
Like aaron said, pan the guitars out away from the vocal.

Try backing off on it some....

pretty good
but 2 much compression and i hear some clipping on the lead vocals

yo I couldn't download the song, but Ive had this problem before. Correct me if i'm wrong but I assume that you think it sounds 2D because it sounded better before you tried to make it louder?

yeah, I don't know how to fix this one either.

if you are going to sell it, get it done professionally.
