my question is this.....
i record only audio tracks. with home studio 9, i was only able to playback 8 tracks. now with sonar xl, i can playback a billion. but i dont need all the midi features.
i am currently running Windows ME and using a SBLive PLatinum 5.1 soundcard. there is absolutely no latency on playbacks.
On recording, i notice that the monitor lights have latency, is there a reason for this?
Also, my recording volumes are alot lower and i havent chagned a thing. any suggestions?
im wondering, should i sell the sonar XL and get pro audio 9 instead?
Sonar XL cost me $400.00.
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Spacedye, I checked out your song on www.nowhereradio.com
Very cool indeed, I really enjoyed it.

Which makes me wonder... You said you dont need all the midi features; why not? I just heard you do a whole song of electronics, seems to me you would be the ideal person for all the midi features, correct??

If you can make a decent tune on home studio, I personally would keep your SONAR, as you eventually can use softsynths once you get the drivers.

The playback meters (or meter to be exact) on Pro audio9 are not exact either. I have seen cubase do the same thing: severe latency to the point of absurd. I guess you just use the meters is a reference, not for critical stuff.

my song...

that song was done with ease using only audio from my ensoniq sq-1, a drum loop sample from drag and drop drummer and a few voice samples i got off of the web.
midi scares the hell out of me. i cant figure out how to dump my SQ-1 sounds into my computer, or however the hell it all works.
now ive got this thing (SONAR XL), and i havent a clue. i didnt care for some of the reverb and delay effects that i was able to use without reading the bible it comes with it. so i just continue recording audio with it. the non-destructive edit slide feature is great and actually, i think home studio 2002 has the same feature.
in the time it took for someone to respond to this thread, i upgraded through cakewalk to 2002 for $49.00. now i have HS-9 and SONAR XL, and HS-2002 is on the way. know anyone that wants to buy SONAR XL for $399.00? it hasnt been registered yet, only that little sticker on the cd case that says "by breaking this seal..." has been opened.
i'll put it up on ebay and see if it goes that way i guess.

Space Dye... er... vest...?

Any chance you like Kevin Moore...?

Loved the track, very laid back, very Chromakey... I love the samples, that's something I'd like to get into some of my music...

By the way, this quote... "After failing to achieve happiness within a band, i believe the excitement of trying to get my thoughts expressed musically through a computer will make me happy for many years to come." is very cool.

Keep it up mate,

Dave.

my secrets out?!?!?

dave,
thanks for listening... glad you liked the song. i LOVE chromakey. huuuuge influence on that song. i cant wait for another album from KM.

Cool...

I've just noticed, you're even from Long Island - nice.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for the next CK album, Kevin takes his time... Check out VAST, it's a little heavier, kinda leans more toward NINs but I love it all the same.

Dave.
