Ok, I have Battery on the way, and I plan on using it with Drumkit from Hell to fabricate my drum tracks in Sonar 2...

Any tips, tricks, and advice thankfully accepted.

Question: Ok, DFH has Battery drum maps already included. Will I need to install Battery 1st, then the DFH stuff, or vice versa, or does it even matter? What then? Will Battery just "see" it when I start it and load it that way, or do I have to direct it?

Question: How do I actually go about using an instance of Battery within Sonar? DO I open a midi track and then place Battery in the plugins area? I'll be using an outboard controller keyboard to trigger. Step by step here for me, if you dont mind.

Question: On the DFH CD it mentions that in order to use all the samples (close miced and distant miced) that you need to open two instances of Battery to achieve this. So, would you just copy your drum track to the second Battery track? Open both instances in the same track instead?

Question: Does the mulitple outputs thing work with Sonar yet?

Wrong forum perhaps? Where would the Battery users typically hang out?

tube,

You can go about installing Battery first. You'll get the choice of VST or DXi (and/or stand-alone). I always use the VST-version in Sonar, in combi with the FXpansion adapter. Mainly cause the dxi version has some sort of bug in the interface (you have to 'peel' open the battery window everytime you fire Battery up. Try it, you'll know what I mean  ).
Then you can apply Battery as an effect on an audio-track. From within the Battery screen, there's a button 'file', from which you can load a kit. My guess would be that from there you could browse to your DFH-battery-prepared-kit. I constructed my own kit from various samples from the net, and saved that. Neat.
Next, add a midi track, with the output set to 'Battery', and you're good to go. You can drum your keyboard at will.....

I installed Battery as a Dxi before I read this, and as you said, you gotta fight it to get it spead out. TO hell with that. Also, I found out that the multiple outs thing doesnt work with Dxi 2.0 yet.
The DR-008 with Sonar XL has all the same functionality as Battery, looks cooler, opens correctly, and has the mulitple outs and the DXi 2.0 standard built in, and there are pre-made drum maps for it in Drumkit from Hell.
Also, I wrote to N.I. and FXpansion both, and guess who wrote me back immediatly about the DR-008? Guess who has NOT written me back about Battery yet, and its been over two days...
So, guess which way I'm going. :)
My midi controller keyboard is due here anytime today, and I'm gonna replace a kick drum manually on a song right away, and then start messing with DR-008 in depth.
Plus, the Dr-008 can get more seperate samples per instance, it has more cells, which wil allow me to get a couple of DFH ambient sounds into the same kit and save some RAM space instead of loading up two instnaces and two complete DFH kits, which takes 512mb.
