According to Cakewalk:

If you upgraded in September 2007 you will automatically get a free upgrade to SONAR 7.

If you upgraded in August 2007 you will be getting an email tomorrow with a special limited time offer with a reduced price on your upgrade.
I upgraded at the end of August. They were running a special until Aug 28th, that allowed you to upgrade for $79. That is probably the reason for the Aug/Sep distinction.

It appears the upgrade price for S7 is $99, so any "deal" that is more than $20 is not too fair.

But to be honest, I'm a Studio version user, and there really doesn't seem to be much there. A couple of the "features" in the list H2H posted have been available in prior versions (Lexicon Reverb, Sonitus Suite, Audio Snap). I'm guessing the Boost11 Peak Limiter doesn't measure up to the L2 (which I already own). The new instruments are tempting, but I am usually disappointed in most DXi/VSTi instruments in general.

All in all though, probably worth $20 - assuming that's what they ask for it from me. :)

Doesn't seem to be huge. I suppose the upgrade price from earlier versions isn't too steep...but it seems a little bit like buying the new Malibu Stacey because she has a new hat.

Got my e-mail from Cakewalk today. $29 to upgrade.

I guess they are charging me $9 rent for the 3 weeks I've had it.

I sat out from v3 to v6, and am no worse for the wear, and I expect I'll do the same this go-round.

At $100 a pop, I figure I saved $220, and got everything from v4 and v5 when I upgraded to v6 (albeit a few years late). :)

The problem with software, IMO, is that once you have the basic ability to record, none of it makes you sound any better. :( If I were running a pro studio, the workflow stuff is probably worth something, since it would save time. For me, the home hobbyist, it's just convenience.

When they come up with the "talent" and "ears" plug-ins, I'll be first in line. ;)

I'm right there with ya.

Yeah, I just got 6 producer not too long ago myself. Bummer. But, I don't think I'll upgrade.

honestly, i wouldnt upgrade if supporting 7 wasn't part of my job.

Looks like they want $179 to upgrade from 6 to 7 I just upgraded for 6 studio to 6 producer a couple months agao and that was only $100.
They keep adding features and fixing problems so often they might as well just offer software maintenance on a yearly basis. I don't know maybe they do!

Yeah, for Producer to Producer. Studio to Studio is $99.

In essence they do... since they come out with a new version every year.
