I have my Alesis instrument definations assigned to 1 through 8 and my Emu Proteus 1 assigned 9 through 16. While i seem to be able to record using the Proteus sounds and record through the D4 - when i play back the track with the D4 is playing back with Proteus sounds. When i try and switch to a D4 channel - I get nothing.

I am thoroughly confused:confused:. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Sonar midi track output:
Have you selected the right keyboard on the track output? You should have at least your two keyboards as choices for where to send each or your midi channels.

Keyboard connections:
The above is assuming you have each keyboard connected independently to the computer, i.e. you don't have one going 'thru' the other, right? Do you have a 2x2 midi interface or two separate interfaces or are you using usb connections to each keyboaord, etc.? If using USB on either, is it set to listen to USB data instead of MIDI-port data?

Keyboard setups:
Are your keyboards configured to or in a mode that allows them to receive on all channels? Your EMU has to receive on 1-8 and the D4 on 9-16. Each keyboard would be likely receiving on all channels, but you've told Sonar to allocate half to each keyboard. On a Roland, this would be performance mode. On a Yamaha S90 (prob. other models too), it would be in sequencer mode.

I have an AKAI: Midi Patch bay - both Proteus and D4 are running through it
it seems like i have the assigments backward. I have the D4 on 1-8 and the EMU on 9 through 16 ... hopefully that is all it is ... I will let you know - thank you for your response
