Wtf is a PRS
Ok this is going to sound really stupid to some perhaps but ill ask it none the less.

Firstly i know next to nothing about automation. Im learning but i still suck at grasping this.

I just recorded a song for someone in which they want to have a part pan from left to right, then right to left, the left to right, right to 42Left.

O.k.

so i broke the the little whale noises down into their own clips and they all run together quite nicely.

... i did the right click create pan envelope in the clips pane.

made the pretty red line do as i mentioned earlier, left right right left ..... etc.

So i wanted to hear the play back, so i opened up the Envelope toolbar. Enabled the envelope playback..

and

nothing.

Am i supposed to automate the envelope somehow?

Im Lost.

And these guys are depending on me to make this happen for them.

Insight? What am i doing wrong or just not getting.

............................

I am jacks retarded frustration......

You didn't mention what version of Sonar your using.

I've only used V. 6.2 with that all you need to do is enable automation make sure the W is lite up rewind and playback. While it is playing back change the parameters in you case faders or panning. Sonar will created the envelopes your talking about. There is an option to show or hide envelopes.

I'm about a green as can be with Sonar so if I can do it anyone can :D

Ummm, when I use envelopes, I don't do anything with this "envelope toolbar/envelope playback" you speak of; I just play it, and it works :o That's for version 4:PE, though.

Sonar 4.....

Hmm im pretty sure i have automation enabled. ill have to go over it a bit more in depth.

IS there any good Sonar 4 Resource sites. For some reason my comp tells me cakewalk.com is non exsistant.

Grey angels right, thats a baffler, mine just works, and i never set the toolbar when I started, (probably set as default).

I see your using a Tascam FW1082 you bought one last week seems like a great extremely easy to unit. I noticed sometimes when I'm moving faders from the Sonar interface more like playing with it I'll get a kind of buzzing sound on the Tascam just for a half a second. I just wonder if you ever experiend this it seems like if I moving the slow their find but when I move this one faser to about the half way point it will sometimes make this chattering sound.
I'd like to know if it's normal if not then maybe I need to exchange it.

Atom Bomb I think your trying to make it more complicated that it really is.
Forget about envelopes just make sure the W is high lighted then play it back.
While it is playing back all your fader and panning will be recorded with automation. When you play it back the second time you should see the
faders and pan position changing.

Any chance you've routed the track through a mono bus? Track panning works differently when it's reduced to mono later in the signal chain.

Yes it does. Actually more than a second sometimes. Different with projects for some reason. Shouldnt be "normal" but i guess for this unit it is. Since I do all my moves on the screen, if it gets annoying I just disable it under control surfaces. Don't need to touch the board really. Seems to happen more with midi. I did exchange and at GC where i got it. Same thing happened. I like the unit so I never bothered going furthur with it.

Thanks for the input. I had a hunch they would all be the same so why bother returning for perhaps something more serious. It is a pretty nice little unit none the less. I got some email from Tascam stating they are currently developing Vista drivers and keep checking the website.

I'm currenty agonized with Vista and a Motu 828MKII on my Vista machine.
I've been using the Tascam on an XP machine along with 2 Delta 1010's for playback and old fashioned mixing. I plan on using the Tascam along with a XP laptop for remote recording. My daughter has a beautiful sounding Yamaha grand piano that it will perfect for.

frig thats a good possibility ill have to check it out.

I also thought that maybe i just dont understand what im doing...

i read the manual and it confused me ...

Does an envelope only apply to the recorded sound or the effects on it?

Some how i got that out of it .. but dont think that is correct.

'i read the manual and it confused me ..."

Well there is your problem. The manual is supposed to be stashed away somewhere were you will never find it"

HA. i thought about giving it to my nephew to use for a coloring book.... ? Ha.

Im still at a loss for this problem. but i havent touched it in weeks. I figure id leave it and come back to it.
