Has anyone had a problem with this combo...?? I had a not so good problem with a MIDI keyboard and my SB-Live... I ended up having to build a new DAW. When I installed Windows XP I upgraded DirectX and now SONAR 2 will not install. It says :

DirectX 8.1 was not detected on your system. DirectX 8.1 is required to use SONAR 2.

Then it attepts to install 8.1 and will not continue installing.
Any help would be great.

As long as Direct X 9 is still in "beta-mode", I wouldn't recommend installing it. I just installed WinXP and wasn't asked to install Direct X 9, even in Windows Update. (Well, Direct X 9 was in the Windows Update, but wasn't recommended to install if you used programs that used Direct X 8.1, because it's not completely backwards compatible yet. You would see that if you clicked "Read More" when running Windows Update)...

So sorry, Direct X 9 is impossible to "uninstall". You need a re-format and a re-install of Windows XP... :(

Tell Cakewalk support. The program should be checking for Direct X 8.1 or higher. If it won't install without seeing 8.1 only, then it's going to cause serious problems in the near future when pcs will ship with newer versions of Direct X installed.
Direct X cannot normally be uninstalled. Re-running XP setup won't clear it unless you first reformat the disk.
There have been some DirectX uninstallers around on the net, but I don't know how effective they are with XP. Try a search.

From what I have learned from M$ press releases, DX9 is only going to benefit games 3d video using the latest graphics cards.
