"Test Floor..."

Tried some new things in the mastering...some harmonic distortion [2+%]in the bottom 120Hz...... [is that something that anybody else does?] a different verb than I usually work with....different guitar sound...rolled off the bass at imput/recording...and used a single PU. The kit is a Roland stock jazz set, that seems to sound pretty good for this application...an all in one midi rendering to audio...not split up and leveled...the top end seems a little harsh and loud... Does the sound fatigue?

A bow to Carlos and Jorge at the end....

Something to listen to, if yer bored.

Sounds pretty good. I don't know what "some harmonic distortion [2+%]in the bottom 120Hz" is....but I think that's what's muddying up the bottom end. Not a fan of the drum sounds. They sound like stock drum machine samples - the cymbals in particular. Very fake sounding. But...I like the guitar melodies and playing. Got any lyrics for it?

Bass could be a bit too loud, Jeff, though I quite like the distortion it has. Cymbals seem a little too loud too. Nice warm guitar distortion. Arrangement sounds great and overall it's a nice mix. All it needs is vocals now....:D

Joey :):):):)

Yeah...vocals. I'll post the completed thing in a few days. Third guit and harmonies to be added, too. And I'll slice the kit up and try some stuff with it. It's a head-tune...has slices of blues, latin and rock. [I don't know who I am...]

A real kit is on the horizon, Greg. Gonna miss the quantize midi function. But playing on the pads is getting me back to some semblance of independence.

The harmonic distortion on my mastering platform allows me to select a freq band(s) to apply 'analog-like' distortion...harmonics...fifths, fourths, nice tube-like freqs. Most guys use it to add 'air' in 12K+. The mix was weak in the bottom, so I tried that, instead of an EQ cut in the high-end...and it lent something...like a slight Jack Bruce mondo-bass thing. Not as bad as he used to make it sound. Figured I'd try it. I'm trying everything.

Tx for the ears-on.

Bass is a little loud. I sure love the guitar work on this song. Nice!

nits: I hear quite a bit of hiss it seems. Overall kinda bass heavy and lacking high end...and the drum sound has been mentioned. Has that cassette quality, for lack of better words.

Nice gtrs and tune. Some killer vocals could put this tune over the top. ... and don't forget the EVH solo too!!:eek:

Thanks. I don't hear hiss. That is , I can't...ear damage. Not from music. I noticed the hiss-zone was pretty hot on the graphic. Shoulda listened to what it was telling me. Thanks for the headsup.

I reckon I can fix a lot when I split the kit and put together some tweaked sounds.....and put Jack Bruce back in the box. :^)

I was exactly thinking about how SRV would pop the top on this tune! And I gotta get Carlos to do a cameo on the outro. :^)

I have damage that masks hiss and a few other things - it's a hassle but relying on the graph can be dangerous too - graph & someone else's ears is better.
I enjoyed the listen - there were a couple of phrases that were familiar but that's OK. A little bass heavy I agree.
Sounds like it could use a few top end freqs & a real drummer to be really, really cool.
