Slackmaster please help the grasshopper!! I am an analog kinda guy, but I am in the design stage for homebased project studio(complete with control room, observation window and booths),and I will need to start out small do to budget restraints. I have decided to start out with the ALESIS STUDIO PACK and the ADAT EDIT kit. I also want to use sequencing, sampling, run my ALESIS SR16 drum machine and hopefully a ZTAR controller. If not a guitar controller (just found out how much they are) then a keyboard controller. Now, my question is what do I need to run this setup...from the ground up. My pops is giving a bunch of old pc parts and I'm sure they need some serious overhauling. Is this cheaper? If I can use the monitor and keyboard and tower, what guts do I need for this frankenstien?

First of all the ADAT Edit card sucks the wanker. Just ask Ed (sonusman)...only works in Windows95 and doesn't work that well.

As far as putting a machine together....you *might* be able to use the monitor, keyboard, case, & mouse....but then you might not.

Don't bother working with an AT style case. You'll need a new one. When you go ATX you'll need a new keyboard and mouse (assuming they weren't PS/2 to begin with). And that leaves the monitor which should still work depending on its age.

I guess it really depends on what you're getting. Let us know.
