I have an E-mu 0404 USB white. I am running Cubase 4 le. I can record into Cubase but I cannot hear playback. I have tried all that I know to do. Could someone please give me some advice. I have the correct driver.

After you record, can you see the waveform that got recorded? Because that would at least tell you if you're having problems inputting to record it or outputting to your speakers. Try asio4all maybe lol

One time I spent hours calling tech support, reading manuals, online forums, calling freinds trying to find why nothing was happening, then..........I found they had built in an on/off switch on my new cable.
