@#$%
I just took the faceplate of the mixer section of my newly aquired 388.
I cleaned the hell out of the cavity, took apart and cleaned all the faders and sprayed the pots. The thing is,how do I get this faceplate back on???
There is a metal bracing bar that runs along front of the channel cards. How do I put the faders under that and screw them in from the top of the faceplate?
I read sweetbeats story of his 388 and saw pictures of the control plate off,but how did you get the faders all lined up underneath with the brace.I cant for the love of me figure this one out.
Easier taking apart than putting back together.
Anyone?????

You got enough play in the harness....

Lay the faceplate on top, slip one hand under it to hold the faders in place while you screw them down one at a time.

Then push the faceplate all the way down and screw it in place.

It really shouldn't be more mystery to it than that....?

I hate to use the phrase, “I would have” when someone is in a predicament like this, but I leave the sliders attached to the panel and unplug them from the channel cards on Tascam boards from this era. I access through the top and bottom panels, or just the bottom panel for most things. I’ve only taken sliders off the panel if they needed service or replacement.

Yeah, you gotta take the bottom panel off too. Lay the machine on its side, take the bottom panel off and then you can hold the fader in place with one hand and place the screws with the other.

On the 388 you can actually take the entire mixer section out with the cards and faders still attached to the dress panel, you just have to *carefully* pull the PCB along the bottom that interconnects all the mixer PCB's, and then there's a whole mess of connections to unplug. I would advise to never do this unless its necessary AND you are confident you can get all the connections back in their proper places. I did it because I recapped the cards.

Thanks guys. The reason I did this is beacause all the faders had crumbs, gunk and a ll kinds of other shit on and in them.So they needed a real good cleaning.I guess I will have to take the bottom cover off and try to tackle it from there.
Thanks again.
Jason.

I recall doing that very same thing (going in from the top) but with an M300 board, several years back, which I found to be a cardinal mistake because it was very difficult to put it back together.
