got a little bored today..decided to go all new with ideas....so i drop tuned a whole step down then drop D..which made it um drop C haha..ive never done this stuff before, and was pleasantly suprised with new ideas you get just by doing a different tuning. although the bass is impossible to play with strings that loose lol..check it out! same setup as usual.....jcm2000, humbucker strat...fender jazz bass through sansamp bassdriver DI

Well, that blew my doors off! Please come over to my house and jam. This held my attention all the way to the very last drop.

Are your lead chops good enough to solo over the top of it? If so you should!!!

My impression about the recording was that I thought it sounded a little dull when I first started it, but as I listened I came to the conclusion that it's just right. The way this is eq'd you can crank the crap out of the volume and not really suffer from listening fatigue.

Did you play all the instruments?

hey man, thanks a bunch =) yep i played all of the instruments. i was going to solo over the part where i just did a triplet minor 3 note thing and harmonized it......but when i went to solo i realized what i was playing in the background was too hard to write something catchy and good to....so i said F it and just did that 3-note lead lol. i think playing in a different tuning makes your sound a lot different, as my usual stuff is funkrock style riff rock etc...this was like dark sounding but a little like horrorish that resolves....haha i cant explain it lol but thanks!!

Wow ZoSo...I'ts rare to hear a C tuning used in such a refreshing way!
You'll find it far more often in Metal music, but you've proven beyond a doubt that it can sound great in Funk/Rock. Great song!

If you plan on using it more often, then it would be a good idea to invest in some heavier gauge strings for your guitar and bass. They'll elleviate fret 'buzz' and keep tone much better.
I'm not familiar with bass strings, since I don't play bass lol...but I use .011 -.050 gauge strings on my guitar. I play a lot of drop C, B and even A tunings, and this string setup works really well. You might even try picking up a set strings for a 7-string guitar, using only the lower 6 strings.

thats a cool ass riff. sorta reminds me of 311 or something like that. really tight dude.

hey kujo, thanks =) great advice too...i want to get a third guitar (which is why I made that topic about the new epiphone wilshire reissue in the main guitar board) so i can keep this modded strat to a lower tuning like this, with heavier strings...then keep my '89 lace sensor strat set to regular tuning, and then have the wilshire as a general humbucker guitar to switch between regular and half step tuning. so i may just give the bigger strings a try, i run 10's on all my guitars as it is, and my basses run the 105's i believe.

and thanks for the compliment too zed!! =)

Cool stuff zoso! When I hear the slicker riffs I think CKY's "96 quite bitter beings". Nice chops and nice grooves. Eric.

AWESOME! haha i'm SO glad somebody thought CKY!! i JUST got into them this past month, and i LOVE that band so much...so much riffage in their music, it's great...and that's basically what i was thinking when i drop tuned and wrote this!! haha thank you!
