Some Fuzz from my Monitor Speakers

Hey Guys,

I recently purchased some Yamaha HS50M monitor speakers but when listening to music through them I am getting a significant amount of buzz.

THIS IS IMPORTANT, I have noticed no problem when they are connected to my Digidesign 003, the sound is quite clear when playing Pro Tools Sessions.

The problem occurs when I am playing MP3 (is this the problem) files off my laptop. My other thought is that it may be my mixer that i am using in between my computer and Speakers.

The mixer is a Behringer (please don't hiss at me) XENYX 1204 FX. I bought this a long time ago as it was only a few hundred dollars before I started mixing seriously. I am using a 3.5mm -> 1/4" lead to connect my laptop from the headphone port into the first channel of the mixer. My speakers are then connected to the mixer from the control room outputs in the back.

Is it the Files? the Lead between laptop and mixer? the setting on my speakers or just the mixer itself. I am pretty confused right about now >.< This is just for when I am listening to music for leisure as when I am mixing it is obviously connected to the 003.

I notice that I also get varying degrees of hiss through my speakers, depending on what program I have open on my computer screen at the time.

Most likely the culprit is the laptop itself. Try playing from the laptop with the volume setting as loud as you can get it and still undistorted, then use lower volume settings on the mixer
