solution for laptop and pc

I noticed that ECho layla 24 had an adapter so it could be used with both laptops or by a pci card in a pc. The new layla 3g doesn't have this funtion, does anyone know of any other pci cards that could do this. For some reason I don't like firewire or usb and want a solution that works for both laptops and a pc desktop.

no fire wire or usb dont leave you with too many options that i know of when it comes to switching back and forth from laptop to PC. Maybe you could consider a docking station. I dont know what kind of laptop you have but i know that Dell makes docking stations for their Latittude's that will hold a PCI card. This way you can put the card in your PC when you need it there..or put it in the docking station and carry it around with the laptop. Im sure other manufacturers have their own versions.

If it was me, I'd look no further than the Presonus Firepod. 8 analog ins/outs, 8 preamps, Hi-Z, phantom power,s/pdif, firewire + CubaseLE, all for $600

Yeah, I've got no issues with FireWire.
I use an 828mkII that works equally well on my laptop or my main DAW. Both use a Texas Instruments controller.

If you really want CardBus and PCI .... it ain't cheap but you could look into RME with this, this and this for just over $1200.

USB, ok. But tell me what is 'some' reason to dismiss firewire already.
My RME Fireface is serving me pretty well on both PC and laptop.

Umm...firewire and usb leave you MORE options when it comes to switching back and forth...not fewer options. PCI cards (unless cases of the aforementioned docking station) do not work in laptops, while firewire and usb will most likely work on both.

Like crankz1, I have been using a Motu 828mkII on my notebook (winxp), my desktop (winxp), and both a win2k desktop and a Mac G4 up at church with absolutely no problems at all.
