software comp and eq for mixing ITB..

Hi everybody..

I was wondering what plugins you guys see as the best for mixing ITB, i'm currently on freebies like blockfish for comp, and kjaerhus classic eq.. For reverb i use SIR with free impulses, and i'm quite satisfied with that..

So, i'm going to invest in a comp-plug and an eq-plug, and I want something really good, what do you recommend..?
 
I'm a huge Waves fan... but If I could do it again I may not have bought the Diamond bundle... look very hard at the UAD-1. Huge amount of power and great sounds that run independantly of your CPU! :eek: :D :cool:

Do a quick search for UAD and see how highly the others consider them! ;)

Thanks for your reply, i have had UAD on my mind, but i have given up on the idea, primarily because I would only afford the project pack, and in the project pack there is only the cheap version of the 1176, and I dont want the cheap version, I want the best.. :)

But then I would have the ability to buy the "real" 1176 plug, for an additional 150$, and on the eq side, the fairchild is not included, nor is the Cambridge, but there is a pultec eq, but is it also a cheaper version..? Anyways, i'm afraid UAD is too expensive for me at this point..

Looking at waves, they could be a possibility, as stated above I need an eq and a compressor, and waves offers several of each type, what would you recommend from the waves catalogue as the best and most useful in the comp/eq section..?
 
Very tricky one.

I love a retro analogue sort of sound (think white stripes). The Renaissance Compressor and eq's are very nice (in fact the whole renaissance bundle is great!) but the eq's not really suitable for surgical work - thats more a job for the Q10 eq.

What sort of stuff are you into? and how much is your top budget???
 
I've got to suggest the master bundle from Elemental Audio.

"Equim" is an excellent EQ for mixing, "Firium" is an excellent surgical EQ, "Neodynium" is probably the most unique and versatile compressor I've used. It also comes with a nice limiter called "Finis"

$350 bucks for all, A pretty good deal.

I have a UAD-1 Project Pack, Waves Ren bundle and the Sonitus bundle that comes with Sonar. I like them all and they are all a little different - but the UAD-1 plugs are usually my first choice. Btw, the "light" version of the 1176 works splendidly for light compression.

i have always liked the T-RackS suite of mastering plug-ins by IK Multimedia. do a google search for them, i think that the entire package is below $300. plus, they're compatible with almost any plug-in format out there.

Man, you know, I never liked those. Could never get them to work for me :(

I can tune the VST T-Racks compressor so it is sounding real good, so close but it's that last 5-10% of perfection I can't get with it, same with the Limiter mighty fine up till the last A/B and I go - that's comin off of there!

Today PSP MasterComp comes out which I think will do the trick as a buss compressor - the demo sounded very good so I sprung for it...won't know if it's a keeper for a few weeks I guess but it's the best sweetening mastering compressor I have right now (don't have UAD or Waves). I picked up MasterQ in the deal too but haven't tuned it up yet, I also use Voxengo GlissEQ for broad strokes and Kjaerhus GEQ7 for cuts like a samurai... :cool:

Didn't we just do this the other day - where's chessrock :confused: :D
 
Yea, it's deja vu all over again.

I've messed around on UAD-1 before, and they're pretty neat plugs that are well worth the money. However, if you'd rather go native, I honestly think PSP makes the most interesting and colorful stuff out there. You can do anywhere from mild to extreme with it, and always come up with something unique and/or useful.

Waves tends to be more clinical in comparison, but extremely functional and high-quality.

I like the PSP Audioware and Elemental Audio plugs, especially the PSP stuff. I find Vintage Warmer and MasterQ to be very useful, and feel that I got my money's worth with those.
