How worn are the tape guides, lifters and heads on your 38? Is the pinch roller sticky? How many hours are on the recorder and which tape did it use exclusively?

It was a local buy and I got some 7" reels. It wasn't pancake so it's inconsequential to the topic. Sorry.

I haven't read every post in this thread so I'm sorry if someone already commented on this. If I understand correctly the solid side of the reel is meant to stay on the left side to prevent dust from getting on the tape. I think the intention was for recorders that could record forwards and backwards. Make sense to anyone else??
