hey guys, fairly new here and looking for some feedback.

basically in 2007 i wrote this song, but using it was put on hold due to the fact i joined a pop punk band and it didn't suit.

i did a rough demo recording using a drum track in 2008, and since then it has never been worked on again.

so this afternoon i resurrected the old recording and gave it a new mix in 2010 for a practice mix more than anything.

you can find it at http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=1058966&songID=9096609.

let me know what you think of the mix, levels and the song in general :)

cheers guys

i really like the break in the middle of the song.

I'm not a big fan of the guitar tone used in the verses. Something with less distortion I think would work better.

The reverb your using I think is too hall sounding, maybe more of a subtle room sort of reverb would work better. For this kind of song I don't think you need as much reverb on the vocals.

In the chorus there's a weird sort of emphasizing delivery at certain points (like in the first word of the chorus. i thinking the word is putting and later drifting). It's a little distracting and unnatural sounding. Maybe just singing it with a less conscious emphasize would make it work better.

my 2 cents.

thanks for the feedback.

i know what you mean about the guitar tone, it seemed like a good idea when i recorded it, but now it feels too much.

listening again, i think i did go overkill on the reverb :D

Hi, nice vibe, there are some clipping during the whole song. I agree with greyharmonix on the guitar tone... less distortion would work better... I'm also a fan of playing with distortion but for the recordings i turn it down several levels, the results are great. Did you put a compressor on the cymbals? they sound weird, like with a fade in, maybe too much attack and too much ratio.

Cheers man...

hi, i tried to do some compression on the kit, but it was a single drum track that was originally done on fruity loops, so everything kinda got mangled together

Yeah, the biggest problem here is the clipping. The reverb on the vocals is a bit much too.

I like the sustained lead line during the second half of the verses.

The drum part is a bit tedious. More syncopation and fewer straight 1/8th notes would help.
