DIY Drum Recording Article

Hey guys,

I wrote a blog post about recording drums on my studio website. I want to help out bands who record themselves, be it demos or full albums. Bands are going the DIY route more and more these days.

Often I get sent sub-par tracks to mix so am attempting to raise the bar a bit!

When I was involved with UK education and examining, I used to constantly advise schools and colleges NOT to pick the options that needed real kits recording because it was done so dreadfully. I still believe recording drums is the hardest thing we do. Balancing two mics is not twice as hard as using one, but maybe three or four times harder. Recording a kit, let alone mixing it is so complex and every adjustment of one means you have to revisit others you though you had positioned right!
