Yo zradio! The above is true. You need to configure your soundcard for a line input, hopefully +4, not -10. As for a tube mic into a tube pre, that describes the signal chain *everybody* used for 40 years or so, and the world did not come to an end from excessive distortion. Your issue is gain staging, not whether power is generated via tubes or transistors.-Richie
 
I think you have much bigger problems if you consider running a mic through a preamp a "problem"
I know a mistake I used to make was running tubes mic through preamps and always thinking I would get a better sound, but sometimes all I got was some extra fuzz (I guess this how I would describe it).

I should also have been more specific. Ok the first time I heard a tube mic go through a tube preamp it was recorded on analog tape and it sound great. I later heard the same mic and preamp recorded at a higher resolution recorded into Pro Tools(digi 002 interface) and the distortion and noise was more evident.
I know that these two situations have alot of factors invovled. I was just suggesting that he may actually get a sound that he likes more by going through a solid state than the brick when using the gt66. Nevermind, I'm done with this topic.

I totally know what you're saying. The last time I recorded with my red cable, it sounded more green than when I tracked analog.
