Any handholding on anyone's part greatly appreciated here from "Hey you've mixed in to much reverb" to "Uhm.. I can hear the new Frasier playing in the background". It's all welcome.
lol... :D

Yes... this is true.

My point is not so much that we don't need help... (because specific tips on how to do "this" and "that" have helped me immensely)... but rather, I'm trying to imply that we shouldn't have to rely on everyone else to tell us what's wrong and exactly how to fix it... we should be able to use the input we get to sharpen our own ears so that we can hear it before it ever sees the first mixdown.

There are different levels of ability here, obviously... and some need hand-holding... but I'm talking to those that don't. We know who we are... and we don't need to be patronized or have our ego's massaged. We need to be able to stand on our own two feet and take all criticism in stride.

This would be a good place to add, that no matter what level we're at, sometimes the best suggestions come from beginners. Maybe it's because they're not listening for the standard things that a lot of us are listening for. Who knows...but damn, I'll take comments and suggestions from anyone willing to spend the time.

Yeah....

every once in a while.... those newbies... they're good for a thing or two.

:p

(I usually find them good for giving me someone to mercilessly harass... but YMMV. :D)

P.S. Your new tune is first on my list of "things to do" when I get home. I'll be sure to tell you everything that's wrong with it and why you suck. :p

Stickin' up for the little guy!!! :D ...

OK, off to do another useless post ;) :)

I'm 'with' too many people...can't mention them all.

I love this board.

What does Cakewalk mean? :o

Maybe we should have a another (oh hell!) Poll?

1. Are you trying to make a "bedroom" cd for mass production and distribution to make money and gain fame?

2. Are you just having fun at something you always wished you could do by yourself?

3. Are you sincerely trying to develop yourself as a real audio recording engineer?

4. Are you interested in learning more so you can hear your ideas come to fruition without having to pay big bucks in a commercial studio to pull it off?

I sorta doubt there would be that much response to #1.

I wouldnt include the already established egineers with state of the art studios, and the means for full production and distibution in this poll. I think they serve best here in a guidance role, when they aren`t just having fun. There is not a great percentage that are resident here in class that anyways, but they know who they are.

sorry if i implied that you posted a silly thread.. not what i meant

i once got (received? :) )an F in English

I was trying to say that the idea of someone throwing negatives into someones head was silly. nothing positive at all... just creating a harsh reality for someone

4, but also in order to help me gain experience in a way

I thought maybe so--just wasn't sure. You have my full agreement on the above. Thanks for the clarification. I hate negative for negative's sake too. I think its evil, cruel and sometimes crippling. I feel like I always have to offer someone a way out of their problem if I'm going to pick something apart. Its only fair.

We're cool!

1,2,3, and 4. But 1 is kind of a joke for me. I would like to make a CD at home to sell, but I don't expect fame. Money? I can always use some of that.

I'm a 2 and 4 myself.

I love picking and i`m having "tons of fun",
I dont have a lot of access to many other players, so doing it at home via my personal studio and internet collaboration is opening up new doors

I'm learning and seeing more of my ideas develop without having to spend $ or borrow time in a studio.

There should be no issue with you being a 1 as well, you have the expertise, the material, and possibly the gear to pull it off up to a point.
I think I should not have used "fame" but maybe "commercial recognition" , which still equates to about the same in the long or short run providing the sales are there..

I didnt know how to set up a "poll" but should have. Or possibly someone should have a thread titled
"what are you hoping to achieve through home recording"
I think that would be a really interesting and helpful read.
And could be a good birthing place for some specialty forums catering to those needs or direction to existing forums that folks might not know about on here.
