The most useful snare in the universe would have to be a 6.5x14 Ludwig Supraphonic. Followed closely by a 5x14 Supraphonic. Both are relatively cheap.

Yup! I have a '64 5x14 Supraphonic with the baseball bat dampener... that snares works on damn near anything with just regular old Emperors and maybe... just maybe some moongel.

As for crack... I am all about cast hoops. They make rim shots (and side sticking) so much better IMO.

Witt does one-piece steam-bent shells. I'll let you know what I think of their work in about three weeks or so.:D

i'm looking forward to that review myself--i haven't heard any of their work. both guys are named ian, and the one that i know is a good dude, really knows his drums. make sure you post a thread on it!

What heads are you using on it? I had one briefly and I couldn't get it to stop ringing uncontrollably. The thing drove me nuts.

I've had a Remo Ambassador Powerstroke on there since I got it, but I'm getting ready to switch to an Evans Genera Dry...

Mine has perfect controlled brass overtones when needed... Maybe you got a bad one from the batch?

The peavey radial pro 1000's are some of the best sounding snares I have ever heard.
