In a perfect world, I would have him raise the hats about 2-3 inches, but he`s super anal about his positioning, and won`t even consider it. Doesn`t matter anymore, cuz these new hats are awesome! On the real, they sound really good. Its actually kind of a good thing that the hats bleed into the snare mic. The blend of the hats between the snare mic and room mic(and I use that term loosely. Its more like a "right side of the kit/ride cymbal" mic. Only using 3 mics currently) gives me surprisingly good results. I would be satisfied with the drums, if we were a more straightforward rock band, but its kinda leaning in to prog territory, so we`ll have to close mic everything. Drum mics are next on the `to buy list.
