Hey Sam,
.....cool jam. That synth in the ending part almost has a
"Prince" kinda influence to it:eek: :D . Cool jam man, and a fun listen.

......where the hell you been homey?

You need to solo more on this, or add some vocals.

This doesn't seem to have the same presence that you usually have. Maybe the new pad has somethin' to do with it.

I thought the loops at the end got a bit repetitive even though I dug that quad riff.;) Maybe throw something different in there occasionally to break it up a bit.

Definately doesn't suck. Hell, I wish my ideas were half as creative.

boydrj - congrats on the high speed! :D Your right about some stuff around here sounding like a lot of 'mid-range highs' and the drums sounding like tin.. It makes me wonder if my mixes lack highs, or other people are over doing it.. thanks for the response!

WATYF - hey, 'Superunknown' is one of my favorite albums.. he uses alternate tunings and pitch shifting too... thanks!

powderfinger - the chain for the solos was guitar tuned to drop C#--- Boss pedals--- Blue Max compressor----- Pod Pro.. I love that compressor because it has very usable presets.. My guitar has a Seymour Duncan hot rail and that makes it easier to get the squeals.. (even on my Hamer telecaster) thanks pdf!

Lt. Bob - I hear ya about a hangover man.. I slept away this entire saturday due to alcohol poisoning.. :D thanks for the ears el Tee! Hope your 4 th was cool!

dobro - thanks dobe! I'm still exploring the wonderful world of Zappa.. The more I hear of him, the greater he becomes..

Doug H - thanks Doug! You may have a point about the verb..

freshears - Dont' get rid of that Vox man! The one thing about the 'Bad Horsie' is it turns off when you take your foot off of it.. It's a cool feature but sometimes I like to just leave it heel down and that makes me use another wah along side.. There's always room for 2! It's been hard for me to do vocals lately, but hopefully I'll work it out soon... thanks Dave!!

JMarcomb - thanks Jeff! I hear you about instrumental music.. I have a new found appreciation for it..

Guernica - thanks G! Prince is cool in my book.. I have been around but posting under this name.. I try to reply to at least one thing everyday.. it keeps me regular! :D Hope all is cool w/ Dylan!

M.Brane - There were no loops used on this.. :) everything except the drums were played.. The drums were programmed.. I agree about the ending.. I didn't put enough time into the drums.. just kinda jamming and it turned into this.. thanks Brain!

thanks for the listens everyone! this was a little jam that I just kept adding to.. nothing was planned and it didn't take too long.. Lots of good points that were bought up..

thanks!

Sam, pretty intense stuff as usual. overall very nice sounds. What is the sound at the very beginning, a synth? It sounds like its breaking up or buffering a little bit at times. Cool sound though. Nice guitar work throughout. I wish I had your imagination!

Twist

hey twist, most of the synth sounds came from this http://www.rolandus.com/products/details.asp?catid=8&subcatid=37&prodid=XV-2020

I don't know what the opening sound was supposed to be because I just kept turning the dial until something caught my attention, plus the screen only shows numbers.. I have to look it up in the book to see what it is, but I totally forget what number that was.... Pretty much the story of my life! You may have a point about it breaking up because I added some distortion to it.. thanks for checking it out man..

The intro sounds like you were drunk (or "worse") doing that :D I mean really.

You're right, this is a jam. The solo guitar tone is excellent, though and I like the mix mostly. It DOES sound like the solo guitar is the only instrument clear enough and the rest are a bit muddy compared to it. I wouldn't call this a song just yet. You need to work on it, or scrap it. It's got some ideas, but not any strong ones IMO. Maybe I'd have to listen a second time...

Ok.. second time..

The intro still sounds like a mess. I mean, the synth voice sounds a bit cheap. I think you could save it if you'd find a more suitable "tone", if you'd want to do that anyway. The rhythm guitar tone caught my attention and it's heavy as hell again. I like it :D

Well, this isn't that good, but I guess it's got some different ideas stacked together. You can't ALWAYS win. Still, you have to experiment with stuff like this, since this almost sounds like it could be mutated into something good.

Cranky One

good to see you, and great review!

I agree with just about everything you said.. I'll probably take the main guitar riffs and turn them into a song by themselves.. It still might not be that good, but it will be.. :D I agree with the muddyness comments.. I normally dont use the Pod Pro for all the rhythms but I did it here because I was too lazy to hook up the other stuff.. The main part of this was all done at one time so I kept going until I had the "not that good" song that you just heard.. :D Glad to see your still alive man.. I still get a lot of compliments about shock wave and master.. Look forward to hearing some new Crankyism!

thanks!

Is that a ring modulator or a synth sound from about :13 - :33? Like that sound.

Nice tune. Guitar sound is like a freaking wall, love it. You definately have one of my fav sounds on this board.

Instrumental tunes are what like best. Vocal tunes need a slamming riff to keep my attention. (like riot and diamond-head...early 'tallica) But artists like Vai, Satriani, and Schenker make great instrumentals...that's my fav stuff.

Sam, if you keep that wall of guitar sound and mix it up with some of your cool riffs I've heard you' make some great instrumental tunes. I just think this is the begining of something...just not sure what. But I like your style.

Great to see you posting, keep em comin'

Hey Sam,
I tried to download it and got this message-

"Direct linking not allowed
Either this is an invalid link, or the artist has posted this link against the agreement they accepted when signing up."

Whats up with that!:D

Couldn't stream it either.

I got it via DL

A vintage sam sounding tune.

The intro patch tracked kinda slowly, like the suond couldn't keep up with your fingers at times. Once the gits kicked in it rocked.
The wah sounds were nice.

Very clean and crisp, well defined.

Nice job Sam :D

Joel

I finally got it to download.:D

Cool intro, what was that tune you were playing,I know I know it!
Oh ya,the death march,duh!:D

Guitars sound better than ever Sam,nice harmonics.
I like the way your mixing the synths.
Drums sounded a little too far back, and less clear than some of your other stuff though.

Sorry to hear you can't sing,I was really starting to dig on your voice.

Mabey you can get a growly whispering sound going?

Cool tune as always,
Pete

Sam;

This tune sounds like CyberDoomsday, Bro! Love the guitar parts in it.

sjcrts - hey scott, that beginning sound was from this http://www.rolandus.com/products/details.asp?catid=8&subcatid=37&prodid=XV-2020
I have a midi controller hooked up to it and I just played and added some distortion to it after.. thanks for checking it out man.. I've already begun turning it into something else.. this was one of 3 songs I did in the past 2 weeks, but I'm not going to post the others because I thought this one was the most accessible.. :D and most didn't care for it.. No proper way to mix the other stuff either..

muzeman - hey Pete, yeah it sux not being able to sing when inspiration strikes.. That was the main reason why I posted so many songs for awhile.. I was able to bust them out from start to finish all at once. Now I have to find somewhere to sing.. maybe soon.. thanks for sitting through it man! :D

jcmm - I'm sending you a p.m.

Axe4Yahweh - "This tune sounds like CyberDoomsday"

That's a great quote to wrap up this thread with.. thanks Axe! :D

The tune is gone for now.. Thanks again for all the ears.. It's always fun reading the comments.. :)

..........WAIT!!! ........

.....just kidding:D

Hey, what's with the new user-name? ...Is that the name of your new band that you mentioned? If so, ...howsabout Zagnut x-1 instead. ....its more... .....chocolaty ...

Hey, what's with the new user-name?

I have no idea what your talking about bro..

o.k. I was feeling a bit bored and needed a change.. A new username was the best I could come up with..

Cygnus X-1 is actually the name of a great Rush song.. (insane bass in it too) Rush is my other favorite band.. They wrote it about this http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~spac250/steve/ident.html

Good Lord I need a life!

BTW, I'm done with that band.. They're a bunch of drug addicts.. I may be a pothead, but I'm certainly not a drug addict.. :D

I mean, just because I smoke doesn't mean I'm an addict right?

O.k. I may smoke everyday, but I've been working the same job for 10 years and dammit, that's gotta mean something...

doesn't it?

:D

..to quote Diamond Dave:

"I dont have a drug problem... I can afford it. ....no problem"

:D

Nice little unit there sam. That's gotta have some great sounds.

Looking forward to your next tune to be posted!

~scott

after hearing you say "i was just turning the dial..." it has a different perspective now. I wasnt into the intro part, it seemed sorta emotionless and experimental, the synth sounded cold and pasted sorta. now the rest of the tune has some really good vibes and I am a wah wah addict anyways...I'm more familiar with the stock crybaby wah sound but that was a super cool twist. Some massive pressure out of that guitar. The drums were ok iguess. you said it was just a jam and ya gotta have something going on with you. Thats mostly all I do. I know this is woodshed stuff, not a "Samicide release" so I aint gonna poke at it.. Fun listen :)

I like it!!

I don't know if I listened to the right song or not but I don't care!!
Gots plenty more to go!!!!!!
You Rock Man!

That lead sounds pretty hot, what are you using? For the guitar signal chain that is.
