ok, just need a bit of help. i want to wire 2 xlr female ends into one stereo 1/8" jack for hookup to my camera. i seen these adapters on the net, but by the time i pay for shipping it would cost me $25, besides, i have all the extra parts and cables just laying around. what pins need to go to what on the mini plug?

well, does your camera have preamps in it?
if not you'll need a mixer of some sort, ie. what riffy suggests

unless you're saying you're already running it from a mixer and the mixer has XLR outs....in that case your manual should tell you which pins are which channels in the camera. Most likely it's probably Tip is left and ring is right. So I would solder pin 2 of the left channel to tip and pin 2 of the right channel to ring. Then I would short pin 3 to pin 1 on the XLRs and then run the pin 1 to sleeve. It won't be a balanced connection of course.

Sony has a mic level inputs so plugging in a dynamic direct will work fine - my Beachtek is totally a passive unit, now if I was plugging in a non-battery condenser .... but really in the long run these little modules work great as they can take in (2) channels of line level & mic level & output mic level. They also work equally great when recording (2) channels to sony minidisc since it has the exact same inputs. Great for location 2 tracking with boundary mics, wireless mics, etc.
