sm57 rattling on drum mount

hey all,
just picked up a set of sm57's to mic my kit and i can't get this rattle to go away. i noticed the heads are loose and i'm guessing that's the way they come but is that causing this rattle? The mounts are the ones that come with the shure package (3 sm57's and one beta 52a) and they only rattle on toms.

are you sure the problem isn't with the toms? try another mic on them...

i miced up a kit last week and one tom buzzed like hell in the recording.

couldn't hear it live in the room though

I had that problem awhile ago. I got some electrical tape, and taped the black plastic head priece to the body. Worked great.

I tried the electrical tape earlier and it didn't seem to help, maybe i just need to do some more laps around it. I plugged in my F15's and they didn't rattle one bit. Also, don't the sm57's have the heads separated because there is porting between the head and the case? I've managed to set up without mounting to toms so far but it's awkward and i had to sacrifice my overheads (jammed in between the roof and the shower hot water line, works... er... great?)
