SM57, how long to warm up?

My biggest regret in life was missing this thread until now.

So here's my input, albeit late and possibly redundant.

The Shure Sm57 is a 3 phase microphone. Therefore it needs to be pluged into a standard 3 phase electrical panel. Now, bear in mind that this work absolutely NEEDS to be done by a licensed electrician. Basically, with a screwdriver, you pry out a circuit breaker on the 3 phase panel, and jam the mic into the space you've created. Now hit record and have a friend call an ambulance.

Agreed on all accounts except one. The sm57 is indeed a 3 'phase' mic, but that in fact is just a bastardization of the english language. Originally the mic was known as a 3 'Fays' mic as it was used by Fay Dunaway, Fay Donahue and the recently deceased Fay Jackson.

Very few homes have 3 phase power. This is why most professional studios are located in industrial districts, so they can use their SM57s.

However, there are 3 phase generators available for the home user. Be sure not to run them indoors!

I just put a 58 on the grill....how long till it's a 57?

7 minutes per side, a small squeeze of lemon, salt and pepper to taste!

Heinz 57 sauce is meant for SM57s on the BBQ. That's why it is called Heinz 57... duh.

(I have a feeling dude is never coming back for this thread.... would you?)

I warm my mics rectally.

Herein lies one of the great problems of the cold 57 phenomenom.
Most people who use the rectum for warming the SM57 dont realise that the 57 wont perform at its optimum at anal temperature. Inside the orifice the temperature holds at about 96.4 degrees . This is simply too warm for the Sm57. The 57 requires a fluctuating temperature. During research at the Shure factory, whilst trying all body cavities and folds of flesh, it was noted that the testicles hang outside of the body, but are still attached to the body, and actually move up and down away from the human body according to fluctuations in the temperature, (hence the shrinking and contracting during cold weather) .It was found that if the 57 was attached to the bottom of the testicles it could be raised and lowered naturally and maintain its optimum temperature without the need for rectal insertion.
When trying out a mic back in those days the researcher would say into the mic " testes testes" which has, as you know been shortened to "test test"
