A lot of guys on here say that to hear a dynamic at its best you need a quality preamp. The Shures are often mentioned in relation to this. My question is - how good a preamp do you reckon it needs to be?

I just bought a Soundcraft M12 (the pres from the Ghost) and am wondering if it may be good enough to do 'justice' to some of these mics, so I can hear them better than I used to on a Behringer or Yamaha desk.

Put up a 57 through a Great River and it's pretty hard not to capture a good guitar tone (assuming the guitarist's rig sounds decent)....

You'll go thru far more hoops with the same mic on a lesser pre.......

noisedude, just plug a 57 in and see for yourself. The M12 pres are definitely going to be noticeably better than the Behringer.

Yeah, I've heard good things about that board and its pres. Just try it!
