Hey, i posted this in another thread, but i am just really hoping I get an answer...I recorded on my Tascam 488 and once i played it back on my boombox, it was really slow...can anyone tell me why?

John

It runs faster because the faster the tape runs when you record, the better quality sound you get. To listen to tapes you make on your 488 on other machines, you need to record what's on your 488 to a regular tape deck first.

how do i record from the tascam to a regular tape deck?

The Tascam will have a set of stereo outs that you run into your recorder. Doesn't have to be a tape deck, it could be minidisc, DAT, computer, whatever. You just need to send the tracks on the 488 to a two-track recorder.

is that what a mixdown tape is? i am screwed because i don't understand any of this :(

Yes, but it doesn't have to be a tape. As boingoman mentioned, you can mixdown to pretty much any medium (tape, cd, whatever). If you've already figured out how to record and playback on the 488, then you've figured out the hard part. So, cheer up.

Your machine runs much faster than convential tape decks (boombox, car stereo, home stereo, etc.). You cannot simply take the tape out of the 488 and put it in another deck. It will always sound slow, not to mention bad.

You first need to record it on a convential machine (tape deck, cd recorder, etc.) that runs at the same speed as the machines you want to ultimately play your tape on. Do you have a regular tape deck? If not, do you have a cd recorder? If you have both, I recommend a cd recorder.
