Slick sounding albums...

Hey, I'm sure this is a question that's been asked over and over again...How do producers/ audio engineers get that clear slick sound on records?...

A lot of it is the gear. I played with a chick bass player and on a gig she offhandedly remarked that she'd mixed "What I Would Not do For Love" by Bobby Caldwell. I checked it out and it was true. It was the first song she'd ever mixed (!) and it was a major, slick hit song. That's very rare.

When I worked on a Neve board with vintage Neumanns instantly my sound was way more slick than it was before. So the gear is one 1/2 and skill is the other. But gear really matters. It's like having a good microscope - you get more detail and there's less crap in the sound.

Oh, christ, what is this, the MP3 clinic? Yeesh. I'm not going to critique every single post, especially when you guys already know damn well underneath the skin that this thread turned into a mob response.

Only because there are very few forums that have a newbee forum that helps the new guys and get up the nerve to post in the other forums here at HR.

Just try asking a normal question at an other site and the first thing you have to do is fight your way through--who is this *sshole and never get your question answered, or just be simple ignored by every snob who is registered there.

I like the people who frequent this site and the ability to help newbees along, get their heads on straight and set them on a true path of home recording.

I remember the first time I was on A&A and like a fool I stepped on to the short bus---well if you have ever been there it's no picnic until you are accepted. If it wasn't for a registered HR person KCearl who knew me. He throat punch one feller and shot the other guy in the foot before giving it to him with a ball-peen hammer .....I don't think I would have gotten out of there with my life!

That's funny cuz kcearl gets his shit handed to him on a plate every day over there. :laughings:

If you're going to make accusations, be specific. But if you're going to make a blanket statement accusing everyone and then cop out with "you guys know who you are..blah blah blah" rather than provide ONE example when someone asks for it, then go fuck yourself. My post was not condescending at all, coward.

But your post isn't about this thread. It's pretty obvious this all about you.

Moving on.............................

This thread isn't even that bad. SSG is a homo.

To the OP...Rami hit the nail on the head, so did Chibba...god knows how much EQ i have to use on tracks to get them to sit right

I spent a day trying to record a guitar piece that would have taken a half decent guitarist five minutes yeaterday, if that...thats a big difference in time and talent and experience

Folks keep saying retrack but theres only 365 days in the year :)

Stick around, just be warned that generalised questions do get jumped on in the audio sections and the n00b forum is always safe..generally...sometimes :D

Aaaaand the clowns have showed up just to prove my point.

I couldn't tell through all the invisible ink. You should really stop using that, you know!

Glen has got a cheek...King condescending extrodinaire...I didnt see one post that comes close to his paragraphs of self serving drivel..

he cant even shoe himself into some banter because he is such a witless prick

As compared to your stellar contributions to this BBS, kc? All you ever have to say is, "I don't know a fucking thing about music or recording, but here's my opinion anyway."

You have absolutely nothing to contribute and are unwilling to learn anything. Why the fuck are you even HERE?

Typical troll response.

There are no such thing as public internet forums. There is always someone who owns it, there are always people who legislate it. There can be a rule on a message board saying "anyone with clown avatars are perma-banned" and that's that. Nothing you can do about it. Except make a forum with your own rules. And pass it off as a "public forum." Except its not. Its your forum.
