Slaving from mesa to power amp?

I have a DC-5 Boogie head. You can slave the signal out (like a preamp output) to a power amp or I guess a very dry clean amp.

My boogie has a 6l6 power section. If i were to slave the boogie to a el34 power amp would it make a significant tonal difference between the two amps if you were to use the same type speakers for both amps?

Yes it would. 6l6's are a little brighter and grainier sounding than el34s which tend to be smoother and fuzzier. The combination could be cool, but the two power sections will not sound the same.

How do you slave it to another power amp? I have a DC3 and wonder if I can do the same thing.

I don't know about that amp, but you would normally connect the slave output (or effects loop output) of the amp to the slave input of another guitar head or to the input of a power amp like the mesa simulclass 90/90.

Mine has a slave jack in the rear of the head with a pot to adjust it's level.

I was shooting for that....

I was wanting a different tone in combonation with the mesa. This way I dont' have to worry about channel switching from clean to dirty.

so doesnt the powersection of the DC still need some kind of load or doesit bypass it completely

Yes probably... I was going to use two speaker cabs, thus using both power sections.

I've not tried it on mine, but I would hazard a guess that turning the master volume down all the way would not affect the slave output signal level. With the master all the way down you could leave the power section unloaded.
