Ok here is my situation. I used sonar on my old hp with 733mhz and 128sdram with almost no problems running windows 98se. I got a dell with xp and I am having a lot of trouble with audio skips during playback and bounces. I am running sonar xl 2.0 on the following computer:

Dell P4 2.0GHz
256MB DDR SDRAM at 266MHz
SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Digital Sound Card
40x/10x/40x Max CD-RW Drive
48x Max CD-ROM Drive
120GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive
Windows XP Home Edition

I have already cleaned the startup and made sure I had only what I must running in the background. Thx in advance for any help. P.S. I did have skip problems playing MP3 files till I installed winamp lite.

Nice system. Too bad about the SB Live ( :) only kidding - but you might want to consider upgrading to a better card for recording).

I suspect your problem is associated with your latency setting, the number of buffers, or I/O buffer size.

All of these settings can be found in the Options > Audio dialogue.

First try increasing you latency by moving the slide bar to the right. Reprofile and see if that solves the problem.

If not, try increasing the buffers in playback que. If currently at 2, raise to 3, then raise to 4, etc.

Finally go to the Advanced tab and change the I/O buffers. Try at 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 etc., and see if one of them solve the problem.

Yea I knew I would need a better card but they would not install the studio one i bought.... ya know how that goes. Aynway thx for the advice, i'm going to try them all.
