I'm quite an accomplished singer with a HUGE range. I've sang everything from Melissa Etheridge covers to Journey and even Jim Reeves. I cannot whistle to save my life. I've made a most earnest effort to learn to whistle but I just can't do it. And nope, I can't roll my Rs either. I'm a solo performer now too, I would love to be able to whistle a guitar solo while I play the chords but I just can't do it.

Nope, other way 'round for me. I can *just* sing well enough for some backups withi less that one octive range

But, whistling? Three octaves and polyphonic! So if you need a jazz whistle solo, just let me know.

(Jeez, the need for that must come up al the time :p )

Yo Rupert! I feel your pain. 30 years in vocals and can't whistle a note. I bet you can't roll your R's either (that ruffles has rrrridges thing). The docs tell me it's genetic, and involves a missing tongue muscle. Apparently about 15% of people can't whistle, and training won't help.-Richie

you just happened to mention the whistle thing while you were at the doctor for an unrelated issue, correct? the thought of someone scheduling and seeing a doctor because they can't whistle is not something i could ever comprehend. mostly because whistling is something farmers did while plowing a field before portable radios were invented.
